What We Are Learning In Elementary :: August Week 1
August Overview: God made us on purpose and for a purpose — to show Him in all we do. As we follow God, His Spirit helps us grow and live differently. This month, kids are discovering they can show God to others through how they act, speak, and treat people every day.
Bible Story: David and Mephibosheth (2 Samuel 9:1-13)
Main Point: I can show God to others when I show love.
Memory Verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
As a family, read the Bible story together. Then, watch this week’s lesson video on the eKidz Online YouTube page to continue the conversation.
This week, kids learned about David's promise to his friend Jonathan. Even after Jonathan died, David remembered his promise and looked for a way to show love to Jonathan's son, Mephibosheth. David welcomed Mephibosheth into his home and cared for him, even though he didn't have to. This story reminds us that love is more than just a feeling — it's choosing to help, serve, and care for others. When we choose to love people the way God loves us, we show others what God is like.
💬 Family discussion questions:
Why did David choose to help Mephibosheth?
What are some ways David showed love through his actions?
Who is someone you can choose to show God's love to this week?
🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:
When You Get Up: Tell your kid, "Today is a great day to show God's love to someone."
While You’re At Home: Decide on a practical way your family can show love by helping or encouraging someone this week.
As You’re On The Way: Ask, "Why is it important that we show love to others?”
When You Lie Down: Pray, "God, thank You for loving us first. Help us choose to love others through our words and our actions so they can see You. We love You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen."
