What We Are Learning In Elementary :: August Week 4
August Overview: God made us on purpose and for a purpose — to show Him in all we do. As we follow God, His Spirit helps us grow and live differently. This month, kids are discovering they can show God to others through how they act, speak, and treat people every day.
Bible Story: David Waits to Be King (1 Samuel 16:1-13)
Main Point: I can show God to others when I show patience.
Memory Verse: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)
As a family, read the Bible story together. Then, watch this week’s lesson video on the eKidz Online YouTube page to continue the conversation.
This week, kids learned that David was chosen by God to be king, but he had to wait many years before that promise came true. During that time, David had opportunities to take matters into his own hands, but instead, he trusted God's timing and continued doing what was right. This story reminds us that patience isn't just waiting — it means trusting God while we wait. When we choose to follow God instead of rushing ahead, we show others that we believe His timing is always best.
💬 Family discussion questions:
How do you think David felt when he had to wait so long to become king?
What does it look like to be patient and trust God when we’re waiting for something?
What is something you're waiting for, and how can you trust God while you wait?
🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:
When You Get Up: Tell your kid, "You can trust God's timing today, even when waiting feels hard."
While You’re At Home: Share about a time you had to wait for something important and what God taught you during that season.
As You’re On The Way: Ask, "Why is it so hard to be patient sometimes? How can being patient help us grow?"
When You Lie Down: Pray, "God, thank You that Your timing is always perfect. Help us trust You while we wait and keep doing what is right each day. We love You. In Jesus' name we pray, amen."
