What We Are Learning In Elementary :: October Week 1
October Overview: God is always good, no matter what is happening in our lives. Because of His goodness and faithful love, we can choose to be thankful in every season. Gratitude isn't just something we say when good things happen. It's a response to who God is. As kids discover God's goodness through each Bible story, they'll learn they can show thankfulness through their words, praise, service, and generosity.
Bible Story: The 10 Lepers (Luke 17:11-19)
Main Point: Because God is good, I can say thank You.
Memory Verse: “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.” Psalm 107:1

As Jesus traveled toward Jerusalem, 10 men who had leprosy called out to Him for help. Jesus told them to go show themselves to the priests, and as they went, they were healed! All 10 received something incredible from Jesus, but only one turned around, came back, and thanked Him. Sometimes, we can be like the other nine. Thankfulness begins when we recognize God’s goodness and respond with gratitude. We can take time to notice the ways God cares for us, provides for us, and loves us — and then actually tell Him, “Thank You!” No matter what is happening around us, we can remember God is always good.

How do you think the man felt when he realized Jesus had healed him?
Why do you think it mattered that the man stopped what he was doing and returned to thank Jesus?
What is something God has done or given you that you want to stop and thank Him for today?
🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:
When You Get Up: Tell your kid, “Before you start thinking about everything ahead of you today, take a moment to remember something God has already done for you, and thank Him!”
While You’re At Home: Take turns naming things you’re thankful for. After each person shares, talk about how that thing helps you recognize God’s goodness.
As You’re On The Way: Ask, "What’s something good God has done that you sometimes forget to thank Him for?”
When You Lie Down: Pray, “God, thank You for being good and for loving us faithfully. Help us slow down, notice Your goodness, and remember to thank You for all You have done. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
