What We Are Learning In Preschool :: May Week 3
May Overview: The Bible teaches us how to care for others. In the Bible, we see God’s people — and Jesus — showing care by praying, helping, forgiving, sharing, and inviting others. This month, preschoolers will learn we can care for others too!
Bible Story: Joseph Forgives His Brothers (Genesis 37–45)
Main Point: I can care for others by forgiving.
Memory Verse: “Be kind and compassionate to one another.” Ephesians 4:32a
As a family, read the Bible story together. Then, watch this week’s lesson video on the eKidz Online YouTube page to continue the conversation.
(Joseph’s story is a longer story, so you may want to read one part each night as a family. If you have a God Story for Me Bible, read Joseph’s story there together. If you’re using a regular Bible, read Genesis 37; 39; 41:1-42:8; 43:16; and 45. Help your child see that Joseph’s brothers hurt him, but later they needed his help. Joseph chose to forgive them and care for them.)
This week, children heard how Joseph’s brothers hurt him, but Joseph chose to forgive them and show kindness. This story reminds us we can care for others by forgiving too.
💬 Family discussion questions:
What happened in the Bible story? (Joseph forgave his brothers.)
How can we care for others? (By forgiving them.)
🕰 Engage in everyday moments together this week:
When You Get Up: Say, “Good morning! Let’s look for ways to help others today.”
While You’re At Home: Practice saying, “I forgive you” during playtime moments.
As You’re On The Way: Point out helpers and say, “They are caring for others. When we care for others, we show them love.”
When You Lie Down: At bedtime, talk about forgiveness and say, “We can care for others by forgiving.” Then pray together, “Dear God, thank You for forgiving us. Help us forgive others and choose kindness, even when it’s hard. Help our hearts be full of love. We love You. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.”
