Bible Story: David and Goliath ● 1 Samuel 17:1-50 

As a family, read “David and Goliath” (1 Samuel 17:1-50) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE  for children’s Bible recommendations.)

After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:

• What happened in the Bible story? (King Saul’s soldiers were too afraid to fight Goliath. When David took food to his brothers, he saw Goliath and chose to fight him.) 

• When David fought Goliath, he knew God would be with him. Is God with you too? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation: 

• Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! Do you know why you can be brave today? Because God will be with you wherever you go.”

• Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, there is no one more powerful than You! Please help us remember You are always with us. Knowing You are with us helps us be brave.”

• Bath Time: Drop foil balls in the bath like “stones” and let your child pretend to find them. Remind them how David picked up stones, trusted God, and defeated Goliath.

• Drive Time: Look for the tallest person everywhere you go. Talk about how Goliath was tall, but David was brave because he knew God was with him.
