Bible Story: Gideon ● Judges 6-7 

As a family, read “Gideon” (Judges 6-7) from the Bible. (CLICK HERE  for children’s Bible recommendations.)

After reading the Bible story, discuss these questions together:

• What happened in the Bible story? (Gideon was hiding because he was afraid. God told Gideon He would be with him. Gideon led God’s army with trumpets, jars, and torches!)

• God helped Gideon be brave when he was afraid. Does God help you be brave too? (yes)

This week, engage in everyday moments to continue the conversation: 

• Morning Time: When you go into your child’s room, cuddle them and say, “Good morning, (child’s name)! Whether we feel happy, sad, angry, afraid, or silly, God can help us be brave and make today great!”

• Cuddle Time: Cuddle with your child and pray, “God, even grown-ups feel afraid sometimes. Thank You for helping me and (child’s name) be brave when we are afraid.”

• Bath Time: Hide a toy under one of three cups. Let your child guess where it is. Talk about how Gideon hid because he was afraid, but God helped him be brave. 

• Drive Time: Take turns filling in the blank: “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid of (say something you might be afraid of)… for the Lord your God goes with you.”
