Conversation Starters

  • We’re part of a Grammy Award-winning church! Elevation Worship’s Old Church Basement won Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Name something you’re crushing it at that you would give yourself an award for.

  • Pastor Steven mentioned that “it’s not a sin to have a good time in church!” What’s your favorite part about church each weekend?

  • We talked about the importance of wind in this week’s sermon. Which wind storms have you experienced and do you have any stories to share from them: Blizzards, Tornadoes, or Tropical Cyclones?

Discussion Questions

  • On a scale of 1-10 (1 being not much, 10 being He leads every decision), how much do you believe God leads your life?

  • Read Ruth 2:2. In this passage, Ruth was willing to glean behind anyone. How open are you to receiving God’s blessings? Can you identify areas in your life where you’ve limited how God can bless you?

  • What is one area of your life where you’re not hearing God clearly, but are trusting Him to lead you? What is something you can practically do to stay positive and glean in those moments?

  • Share a time when you were able to adapt to a situation that seemed difficult and were blown away by the outcome.

  • Identify something that once blew you away but now seems less exciting? How can you find a new level of appreciation for that thing?

  • Pastor Steven says, “You don’t really know what you have until it’s been threshed.” Threshing is a process of separation where the useful things in our life are removed from the things we no longer need. Name an area of your life where you have experienced or are experiencing a process of threshing.

  • Read Matthew 13:44. This passage reminds us that treasure is usually hidden in a field. And yet, Pastor Steven reminds us, “The longer we stay in a field, the less we will recognize the treasure.” What is something you can practically do to keep your focus on the treasure instead of the dirt in the field of your life?

Act On It

Let’s start seeing the treasure over the dirt! Look at the field of your life. Write down the treasures you can find that God has blessed you with right now. Spend time thanking Him for these blessings.

Prayer

Father, thank You for all of your benefits. Remind us that You have treasure buried beneath the surface of whatever we are going through. Help us to see our challenges with spiritual eyes this week. Give us strength to endure the threshing process so that we can be blown away by Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, amen.
