Make It Personal
What highs and lows have you experienced recently?
We need four things to help us have the right approach to a year of highs and lows: vision from God, faith for the future, a renewed mind, and a life full of thanksgiving.
Vision from God — Vision doesn’t come from church, but from God. What can we do to get “prophetic vision”? Talk about practical steps.
Read Proverbs 29:18. Without vision, we’ll have no restraint. Pastor Chad gave examples like restraining ourselves from gossip, bad financial decisions, etc. Where in your life could vision help give you restraint? How would vision help with that?
Faith for the future — Faith is trust, confidence, and belief. On a scale of 1-10, how would you rate your faith for the future? (1 is very low, 10 is very high.) Pastor Chad challenged us to use even our “mustard-seed-sized faith.” What would that mean for you?
Read Mark 9:21-24. What unbelief do you need to overcome? This man was very open with Jesus about his unbelief; what can you do to be more open with God about challenges you’re facing in your faith?
A renewed mind — Read Romans 12:2. What does it mean to be transformed by the renewing of our mind? How can we do that?
God gave us the ability to bring our thoughts from low to high. How is your thought life? What thoughts do you need to take captive?
Life full of thanksgiving — Would the people around you describe you as a grateful person? Tell the group about someone you know who is very grateful; what about that person would you like to emulate?
Where in your life do you most need to practice gratitude? Why?
Act On It
The blessing of God is on the other side of obedience. Tell the group which of Pastor Chad’s four points spoke to you the most. Identify at least two things you can do this week to obey and grow in that area, and do them.
Prayer Requests And Prayer
Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Father, thank You for a new year where we’re going to see You at work around us and in us. We need Your vision for our lives — show us what we can do to see Your vision and develop faith for the future, a renewed mind, and a life full of thanksgiving. In Jesus’ name, amen.
