Conversation Starters

Pastor Larry said he loved math in school. What was your favorite school subject?Which situation would you rather face: trapped in an elevator for two hours, run out of gas on the highway, or a broken air conditioner for one summer night? If you were going to play a game of hide and seek, where would you want to go?

Review

Ask eGroup members to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

Make It Personal

  • When you face a challenge, what’s your typical response? (e.g., I love it, it makes me uncertain, I hide from it, etc.) Give some examples.

  • Read Exodus 3:5-6. Moses felt afraid and uncertain, so he hid his face from God. What are some ways we hide when we feel uncertain, afraid, or ashamed? What hiding places do you go to?

  • When we hide our face, it’s because we’re focused on who we are instead of who God is. What does it mean to focus on who God is instead of who we are? How can we do that?

  • Read Exodus 3:1-10 and 4:10-12. Have you ever responded to God with doubt or uncertainty, like Moses did? Talk about it with your group

  • What beliefs about yourself feed into your uncertainty? How did you get here — to where you believe these things? (How did the environment you grew up in shape your beliefs?)

  • Read Acts 7:23-27. The Israelites did not know God’s purpose for Moses, and they caused him to question who he was. When has a “they” caused you to forget “who”? What do you do to remind yourself when you face situations like this?

  • Go deeper. Read Philippians 4:10-14. Paul’s contentment was completely separate from any needs he faced — he knew who he belonged to. When you’re feeling discontent, what kinds of things are you thinking about? How can we use Paul’s focus in this passage to help us find true contentment?

Act On It

Think of where you’re feeling uncertain, afraid, or ashamed. Is there an area where you’re asking who you are? Face those feelings this week by reflecting on whose you are and who God is. You could do a devotional, take a prayer walk, call someone and talk about this message with them, spend time remembering God’s faithfulness in your life, etc.

Prayer Requests And Prayer

Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week.Father, thank You that we can always stand on Your promises rather than what we think or feel about ourselves or any situation. Remind us this week who You created us to be so we can walk in confidence and strength to glorify You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
