Conversation Starters

  • Monday is Valentine’s Day! Which is the best gift: flowers, chocolate, or a heartfelt card?

  • What’s a gift or skill God’s given you that you’re really good at?

  • Our church and Pastor Steven’s son just celebrated their 16th birthdays. What’s one piece of advice you would give to yourself at 16?

Review

Ask eGroup members to share their favorite points from the message, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment they related to the most, or questions they have. If members have a hard time recalling the message, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

Make It Personal

  • What are your “weapons” in this season? (Where do you feel equipped and able? What are you using to fight your battles?) (e.g., experience, drive, connections, skills and talents, etc.)

  • Read 1 Samuel 14:4-10. Jonathan had three things that made him able to do this — the first was development. He was dumb enough to do something based on the assumption that God can do anything. How is overthinking keeping you from stepping out in faith? (What do you think is going to fail and it’s keeping you from stepping out in faith, or what “impossibilities” are you focused on?)

  • The second thing Jonathan had was detachment. He detached from thoughts of the outcome and moved forward by faith. What do you need to detach from? (e.g., what people think, your own expectations, fear or anxiety, past experiences, insecurities, etc.) Why?

  • The third thing Jonathan had was desperation. They had no weapons — they just moved toward the possibility of victory. What would it look like for you to just move toward the possibility of victory? (How can you move toward what you’re praying for?) Share a step you can take. (Is there something you need to do God’s way instead of the way you’ve been trying it?)

  • Share a time when you lost a battle because you didn’t have a blacksmith. (You didn’t know what to do because no one had prepared you.) How about a battle you won because someone equipped you with a weapon beforehand?

    • Who can you be a blacksmith for? (Who can you help prepare for their own battles?) Share with the group what you can do.

  • Read 2 Corinthians 10:3-4. It’s too expensive to go to the world to get your weapons. What weapons have you been getting from the world? (e.g., self-confidence, wisdom, love, community, etc.) How can you get that weapon from God?

  • “The devil will tempt you to diminish what you’ve been given.” How do you identify with that? What’s your “one weapon” you can focus on using?

Act On It

Choose one (or both!) of the ways below to act on this week’s message.Go with what you’ve got. Share with the group one step you’re going to take forward in faith using your weapon.Be a blacksmith. Remind the group who you want to be a blacksmith for, and share one way you can do that this week.

Prayer Requests And Prayer

Ask eGroup members to share any prayer requests they have. Record any notes or prayer requests to pray for members during the week. Father, thank You for making us more than conquerors whether by equipping us with the right weapons or even by turning the enemy’s weapons against them. Give us perspective this week to see how You’re moving on our behalf, and help us step out in faith and trust that You’ve already won the battles we’re fighting. In Jesus’ name, amen.
