Sermon Highlights

  • To experience the peace of God, you must embrace the God of peace.

  • God shows things in stages, and He teaches things in pieces.

  • It is a kindness of God that He teaches you in pieces. He gives us a piece, then gives us time to practice.

  • The boat you’re on is going to go through a storm, but you are going to make it.

  • Every time God allows you to face a new problem, He’s trying to show you a new piece of Himself – something that was there all along but you never saw.

  • God didn’t send you into the storm empty-handed – There’s bread in your boat.

  • God sends you into a storm so that the bread doesn’t become stale.

  • What starts as a piece might become a praise.

Sermon Discussion

Conversation Starter

  • Pastor Steven talked about receiving tennis lessons in pieces. What’s a sport or hobby you currently enjoy that you had to learn piece by piece? How is it different for you now versus when you first started?

Discussion Questions

  • “To experience the peace of God, you must embrace the God of peace.” What can staying connected to God look like even when you can't feel His peace right away?

  • “God didn’t send you into the storm empty-handed – There’s bread in your boat.” Take some time to “check your bread” as an eGroup: What pieces of bread do you already have for the challenge you’re facing?

Additional Questions

  • “It is a kindness of God that He teaches you in pieces. He gives us a piece, then gives us time to practice.” What “piece” is God giving you to practice right now? (ex. patience, peace, self-control, etc.)

  • “Every time God allows you to face a new problem, He’s trying to show you a new piece of Himself.” Share a time when you faced a problem that revealed a new piece of God to you.

  • “What starts as a piece might become a praise.” What’s something in your life that used to feel broken, but God turned it into something you can praise Him for?

Prayer Prompt

Ask this question to your eGroup and include it as part of your closing prayer:

Pastor Steven encouraged us: “The boat you’re on is going to go through a storm, but you are going to make it.”

Ask your eGroup: What do you have coming up this week where you are trusting God that you're going to make it?

Pray that each member knows that the God of peace is with them through whatever storm they face. Pray that they look down to see the pieces God left them to sustain and uplift them this week.
