Sermon Summary

  • What do you do when things don’t go according to plan? There might be some things in your path you didn’t expect, and it might be taking longer than you thought, but God’s got you covered. Hold on to this: You’re still going to get there.

Sermon Highlights

  • Sometimes, God will send a problem in answer to a prayer.

  • Relief is easy. Freedom is a process.

  • Your tears aren’t wasted; they are watering something.

  • God is the only one who really knows what’s in you and when you’re ready.

  • Even if it takes longer than you think, you’re still going to get there.

  • Sometimes the mission doesn’t look like the map.

  • God took them on a detour because of His mercy.

  • You have to release to receive.

  • If you keep your hands open, God will never stop meeting your needs.

  • God’s got me right where He wants me.

  • God leads us to the deep end so we can depend on Him.

  • Crying is no substitute for crossing.

Sermon Discussion

Conversation Starter

  • Pastor Steven talked about the song he was listening to on his drive to church with Abbey. What do you like to listen to on a Sunday morning before church?

Discussion Questions

  • “Sometimes, God will send a problem in answer to a prayer.” What have you been seeing as a problem that could be an answer to a prayer?

  • “You have to release to receive.” As we head into next week's Trust In God Offering, where do you feel God prompting you to open your hands and trust Him?

Additional Questions

  • “God took them on a detour because of His mercy.” Where can you see God’s mercy as you look back on the detours of your life?

  • “Crying is no substitute for crossing.” Where have you been crying out to God, but He’s calling you to step forward?

  • “Even if it takes longer than you think, you’re still going to get there.” In what area of your life are you speaking this promise over?

Prayer Prompt

Ask your eGroup if they have any prayer requests or praise reports they’d like to share, and include them in your closing prayer.

Pray this prayer over your eGroup to close, and/or send it to them throughout the week to let them know you’re praying for them!

Lord, I thank You that You see us, You’ve got us covered, and we can trust You’ve got us right where we need to be. I pray you give each one of us the strength to let go, releasing what we’ve got tight in our fists, so we can go forward with You.
