High School Week 1: Prayer
The Main Thing:
Spending time with Jesus through prayer changes me.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter):
Who’s someone you can talk to for a long time without running out of things to say? What makes talking to them easy?
Explore the Scripture:
Read Luke 11:1-4 together. Spend some time talking about the passage.
What words, phrases, or actions stand out?
What questions does this passage raise?
What’s God showing you about the passage?
What does this passage reveal about Jesus or people?
Unpack It:
Discuss what you read and what you heard.
Why do you think the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray?
Look at the different things Jesus includes in this prayer. What do they show us about what we can talk to God about?
How is thinking of prayer as time with Jesus different from thinking of it as something Christians are supposed to do?
Which verses challenge or encourage you most? What about the message challenged or encouraged you?
Own It:
Make the Scripture personal.
When does prayer feel most natural to you? When does it feel difficult, awkward, or easy to forget?
What usually gets most of your attention when you have a few quiet minutes? What would it look like to intentionally make some of that space for Jesus?
How’s God calling you to apply what you read or what you heard?
Live It:
Take action to apply what you learned.
In your Leader Overview are three ways students can spend time with Jesus through prayer. Talk about each one, and challenge your group to do one of them.
Prayer:
End your meeting by inviting someone to pray for the group to see prayer as time with Jesus and to make space to talk with Him throughout the week.
