High School Week 2: The Word
The Main Thing:
Spending time with Jesus through His Word changes me.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter):
What’s something you’ve watched, read, or listened to more than once? What are some things you notice about it each time?
Explore the Scripture:
Read Luke 24:13-35 together. Spend some time talking about the passage.
What words, phrases, or actions stand out?
What questions does this passage raise?
What’s God showing you about the passage?
What does this passage reveal about Jesus or people?
Look again at verses 25-32. What changed as Jesus helped these two disciples understand Scripture?
Unpack It:
Discuss what you read and what you heard.
The disciples were walking with Jesus before they realized it was Him. What stands out to you about the way Jesus interacted with them?
Jesus used Scripture to help them understand what God had been doing all along. What does that show us about the purpose of God’s Word?
What’s the difference between reading the Bible to check it off and reading it to spend time with Jesus?
Which verses challenge or encourage you most? What about the message challenged or encouraged you?
Own It:
Make the Scripture personal.
Be honest: What tends to make reading the Bible feel like checking something off instead of time with Jesus?
What do you usually do when you read something in the Bible you don’t understand?
How’s God calling you to apply what you read or what you heard?
Live It:
Take action to apply what you learned.
In your Leader Overview are three ways students can spend time with Jesus through His Word. Talk about each one, and challenge your group to do one of them.
Prayer: End your meeting by inviting someone to pray for the group to approach God’s Word as an opportunity to know Jesus and allow His truth to shape how they live.
