High School: Getting Started
What’s good, YTH Leaders!
Hope you’re ready to Do the True You. We’re believing this study is going to help our teenagers let go of looking to culture to define who they are and where they’re going, and you’re going to play a huge role in that.
To get you set up, check out the reading plan and study flow below.
As for what to expect during group time?
Each week will have some stuff to get your group rolling, discussion questions to unpack the week’s lesson, a prayer, extra discussion questions in case your group just can’t get enough, and an action step for them to take during the week. Don’t miss out on this part! This is a great way for them to put the discussion into practice, so check in with them during the week to see how they’re doing.
READING PLAN
To help you track along with the study, here’s a recommended reading plan:
Read chapters 1-5 by March 24
Read chapters 6-9 by March 31
Read chapters 10-13 by April 7
Read chapters 14-17 by April 14
Read chapters 18-21 by April 21
Read chapters 22-25 by April 28
Lead the way for your group and dig in — encourage them to follow along through the book with you. Yes, they can technically complete this whole study without ever opening the book, but challenge them to go the extra mile! The results they’re looking for might take some extra effort (the first word of the book is “do”! 😉).
STUDY FLOW
Week 1: I’m not stuck unless I stop.
Action Step: Commit to progress.
Read: Chapters 1-5
Leader Tip: This week helps students recognize where they’ve quietly given up and challenges them to take ownership of their next step. As you lead, listen for areas where students feel discouraged or passive, and guide them toward small, practical action instead of overwhelming change.
Week 2: Christ is in me. I am enough.
Action Step: Accept your Self.
Read: Chapters 6-9
Leader Tip: This week takes on performance, comparison, and the pressure to prove themselves by grounding students in their identity in Christ. As you lead, create space for honesty about insecurity — keep the conversation focused on truth rather than self-criticism or surface-level confidence.
Week 3: With God there’s always a way, and by faith I will find it.
Action Step: Focus on possibility.
Read: Chapters 10-13
Leader Tip: This week challenges students to shift from defeat to faith when things don’t go as planned. As you lead, help them wrestle with the difference between wanting their way and trusting God’s way, especially in real disappointments.
Week 4: God is not against me, but he’s in it with me, working through me, fighting for me.
Action Step: Walk in confidence.
Read: Chapters 14-17
Leader Tip: This week builds courage by helping students see that God is with them in pressure, failure, and uncertainty. As you lead, be attentive to students who struggle with fear or self-doubt, and reinforce that true confidence comes from God’s presence, not their performance.
Week 5: My joy is my job.
Action Step: Own your emotions.
Read: Chapters 18-21
Leader Tip: This week focuses on emotional maturity and taking responsibility for our responses instead of blaming our circumstances. As you lead, normalize honest emotions while challenging students to move from reacting to choosing gratitude, faith, and self-control.
Week 6: God has given me everything I need for the season I’m in.
Action Step: Embrace your now.
Read: Chapters 22-25
Leader Tip: This week helps students stop rushing their future and start embracing their current season. As you lead, encourage perspective — help them see how today is worth paying attention to rather than waiting for tomorrow, and remind them God is preparing them now for what’s next.
