Mindset #3: With God there’s always a way, and by faith I will find it.
Action Step: Focus on possibility.
Read Do the True You chapters 10-13 before your group meeting.
Watch the video: Encourage students to take notes on what stands out to them and what they want to remember.

What’s On Your Mind?

When something doesn’t go the way you planned, what’s your first reaction? (e.g., get frustrated, shut down, try again, overthink what went wrong, pretend it doesn’t really matter, move on to something else, etc.) Why do you think that’s your default?

Shift Your Mindset

Review the following mindsets with your group before jumping into this week’s discussion:

Mindset 1: I’m not stuck unless I stop. (Action: Commit to progress.)
Mindset 2: Christ is in me. I am enough. (Action: Accept your Self.)

  • What’s the difference between believing God can make a way and demanding that God do things your way? Talk about some practical examples.

  • Read Matthew 26:39. Jesus prays in the garden and asks for another way — but still chooses God’s will. What does that show us about faith when the “way” isn’t what we wanted?

    • Now read Hebrews 4:16. Do you actually go to God first when things fall apart? What might keep us from doing this?

  • What does “focus on possibility” look like in real life? (Not positive thinking — faith in action.)

  • "If you really believed there was still a way forward, what step would you take this week?" (pg. 102) Is there an area or situation where you need to move from “There’s no way” to “God, show me the way”?

Pray: God, thank You that You are never stuck and never surprised. When things don’t go how we planned, help us trust that You are still working. Give us courage to seek You first instead of shutting down. Teach us to look for the way You’re making instead of assuming there isn’t one. Help us take steps of faith, even when we can’t see the whole path. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Go Further

  • Read Romans 8:28. What does this verse mean to you? How could it help you focus on possibility instead of thinking about how a situation isn’t going how you want?

  • How do you tell the difference between a voice of fear and a voice of faith?

  • “With God there’s always a way.” Have you ever decided on “a way,” but you felt like God was leading you to do something different? What happened?

  • What’s something you’ve avoided because you assumed it wouldn’t work out? What would it look like to take one faith step instead?

WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Go and DO the True You

"You have to step out and try, or you'll never find out what's inside." (pg. 124)

This week, when something feels blocked or impossible, instead of saying, “There’s no way,” pause and say: “With God, there’s always a way.”

Then take one small faith action:

  • Ask for help instead of pretending you’re fine.

  • Pray before reacting.

  • Try again instead of shutting down.

  • Have the conversation you’ve been avoiding.

  • Look for how you can grow instead of blaming others.

  • Take one step toward something you assumed wouldn’t work.

The goal isn’t pretending things aren’t hard. It’s refusing to decide they’re impossible!
