High School Week 4 (April 15): Mindset #4
Mindset #4: God is not against me, but he’s in it with me, working through me, fighting for me.
Action Step: Walk in confidence.
Read Do the True You chapters 14-17 before your group meeting.
Watch the video: Encourage students to take notes on what stands out to them and what they want to remember.
What’s On Your Mind?
You’re about to walk into something big — like a hard conversation, a final exam, tryouts, or a leadership moment. Who are three people you’d want in the room with you? What would their presence change for you?
Shift Your Mindset
Review the previous mindsets with your group before jumping into this week’s discussion:
Mindset 1: I’m not stuck unless I stop. (Action: Commit to progress.)
Mindset 2: Christ is in me. I am enough. (Action: Accept your Self.)
Mindset 3: With God there’s always a way, and by faith I will find it. (Action: Focus on possibility.)
Read Jeremiah 1:6-8. What’s one way you feel like Jeremiah? How does God’s response to him encourage you?
When you hear, “God is not against me,” do you fully believe that? Why or why not?
Have you ever felt like God was disappointed in you or against you? What made you feel that way?
Read Romans 8:31-39, and pay special attention to verse 31. What stands out to you? How can this passage help you have confidence in the face of tough situations?
“Walk in confidence” isn’t just a feeling — it’s a choice. What would walking in confidence look like this week in:
A hard conversation?
A risk you’ve been avoiding?
A situation where you feel insecure?
What’s one step you could take in that space where you need to walk in confidence?
Pray: God, thank You that You are not against us — You are for us. Thank You that You don’t leave us when things get hard. When we feel insecure, remind us You are with us. When we feel pressure, remind us You are for us. Help us walk into hard situations with courage, not because we’re perfect, but because You are present. Use us this week in ways we may not expect. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Go Further
What does it look like for God to fight for you? How is that different from fighting your own battles alone?
“The true you knows that the unique way God made you is part of the reason he chose you.” (pg. 151) God is with you even when you fail. What would you attempt if you weren’t afraid of failing? How does believing God fights for you change your relationship with failure?
Read Psalms 23:4. Why do you think it says we walk “through” the valley and not “around” it? What does that teach you about how God works in hard seasons?
On page 157, Pastor Steven talks about a time when Joshua was leading the Israelites and they had to cross the Jordan River (Joshua 3:15-16). The water didn’t stop flowing so they could cross until they stepped out in faith. What’s something you know God has spoken to you that you need to take a step of faith toward?
The mindset also says God is working through you. Where might God want to use you right now — at school, on a team, in your friend group, at home? How can you be courageous and take a step to let Him use you?
WEEKLY CHALLENGE: Go and DO the True You
"That's where you're going to see the miracle: as you walk forward into God's calling.” (pg. 157)
This week, choose one situation where you normally feel insecure or nervous. Before you walk into it, pause and say: “God is with me. I’m not alone in this.”
Then:
Speak up when you would normally stay quiet.
Tell the truth even if it costs you.
Apologize first.
Step into leadership instead of shrinking back.
Try something new without overthinking it.
Stand firm in a decision you know is right.
Confidence doesn’t mean you’re not nervous. It means you trust who’s standing with you.
