Series Verses:

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” (Psalms 1:1-3)

“You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.” (Deuteronomy 14:2, NLT)

Discussion Goal: To use your faith to help you see.

Start Talking (Conversation Starter)

Would you rather be able to see only in the dark or only see in black and white?

Think It Through (and Talk It Out)

Leader Tip: Choose questions that resonate with your group’s age, experiences, and current understanding. There’s no pressure to cover all the questions — pick the ones that fit your group the best.

  • Have you ever looked at something one way, but someone else helped you see it differently? (e.g., "I thought my way of doing the project was the best, but when my partner showed me their idea, I realized it could be even better if we combined both!" "There was a kid I thought was really quiet and maybe unfriendly, but my friend told me they were just shy — and now we’re actually friends!" "I always thought sushi looked gross, but my cousin convinced me to try it. Now it’s one of my favorite foods!")

  • Read Hebrews 11:1. This verse defines faith as a kind of spiritual sight — trusting in God’s promises even when they haven’t yet become visible. What does it mean to see things through our faith? Give some examples.

⬆️ LEADER TIP: Just like glasses help us see better, faith is like wearing glasses that help us see life through God's perspective.

  • Read 2 Kings 6:8-17. Elisha’s servant was afraid when he saw the enemy army, but Elisha prayed instead of panicking. What did he pray for, and how did God answer?

    • How did Elisha’s faith help him see the situation differently than his servant?

    • How can faith help you see situations differently than others do?

Pray: God, our faith changes how we see. Help us know You are working even when we can’t see it yet. Help us view whatever we are facing through the lens of faith. We love You. Amen.

Additional Questions

  • What can we do when the world tries to get us to see things the wrong way — ways that are different from what God’s Word says?

  • Read Numbers 13:26-33. All the spies — 12 total — saw the same land, but only two spies, Joshua and Caleb, saw something different than the others. How did their faith affect what they saw and believed? What affected what the other 10 spies saw?

    • Has fear (or another emotion like discouragement, sadness, loneliness, anxiety, anger, etc.,) affected your thoughts or perspective? How can your faith help you when you’re feeling discouraged or afraid?
