“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith.’” (Romans 1:16-17)

“Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us… ” (Ephesians 3:20)


Discussion Goal: We can learn to live boldly by surrounding ourselves with others who are doing the same.

You can pick any celebrity in the world to be your friend. Who would it be and why?

Think It Through (and Talk It Out)

Leader Tip: Choose questions that resonate with your group’s age, experiences, and current understanding. There’s no pressure to cover all the questions — pick the ones that fit your group the best.  

  • Think about your friend group. Do they challenge you in your faith? Do you challenge them? 

  • Read Proverbs 27:17. What's the difference between someone who sharpens you and someone who just makes you feel good about yourself?

  • Read Proverbs 13:20 and 1 Corinthians 15:33. The Bible makes it clear that we need to be very careful who we surround ourselves with. How have you seen someone’s friendship choices affect them for good or for bad? How do these passages challenge you in thinking about your friends or the people you spend time with?

Pray: Jesus, thank You for this group, where we can learn more about You and how to grow in our faith. Place people in our lives who will sharpen us, and help us be someone who sharpens others. In Your name we pray, amen. 

Additional Questions

  • Read Acts 4:5-13. John and Peter were able to feed off each other’s boldness. We need to surround ourselves with people who have bold faith. What does someone who walks in “bold faith” look and act like?

  • How can hanging out with people who have big, bold faith help you trust God more? Who in your life has already pushed you to do that?

  • What’s a small change you could make to get around more people who are bold in living out their faith?
