High School Week 1 (December 3): In the Stable
Series Overview – In the Stable
Jesus didn’t come to get; He came to give — His time, His love, and ultimately His life.
Series Verses:
“While they were there, the time came for the baby to be born, and she gave birth to her firstborn, a son. She wrapped Him in cloths and placed Him in a manger, because there was no guest room available for them.” Luke 2:6-7
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10:45
“For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son…” John 3:16
Discussion Goal:
Generosity isn’t about the size of the gift — it’s about the posture of your heart.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter):
What’s the weirdest, funniest, or most unexpected Christmas gift you’ve ever received — or given?
Think It Through (and Talk It Out)
Leader Tip: Choose questions that resonate with your group’s age, experiences, and current understanding. There’s no pressure to cover all the questions — pick the ones that fit your group the best.
Read Luke 2:1-7. The world says, “Get more.” Jesus showed a life that said, “Give more.” Where do you feel that pressure most in your own life — at school, with friends, or during the holidays?
How does this focus on getting more make it tough for us to be generous?
Read John 3:16. God gave His Son — the ultimate gift. What stands out to you about the way God showed love in this verse? How does knowing God gave something so big for you shape the way you see yourself?
What’s one area of your life where you could respond to that kind of love by giving more of yourself? (e.g., your time, attention, encouragement, etc.)
Jesus’ birth shows us that God is generous — He gave us His Son. Gratitude is a great place to start when it comes to being generous. What’s one thing you could thank God for this week that could help you be more generous? Share it with the group along with why you’re thankful for it.
Pray: Jesus, thank You for giving everything for us — starting with the way You came to save us. Help us remember that generosity isn’t about how much we have but about how we give what we do have. Fill us with joy as we serve, share, and love like You. Amen.
Additional Questions (use as needed)
Read Mark 10:45. Jesus came to serve and give. When is it hardest for you to serve or be generous — with your stuff, your time, or your patience? What usually gets in the way?
God doesn’t want something from you, but for you. How might generosity actually lead to more joy or peace in your life instead of less?
Generosity isn’t only about giving to others — sometimes it’s about letting go. What are some things students your age often struggle to release? (e.g., expectations, image, self-focus, control, etc.)
What’s something you might need to release to make more space for what God wants to do through you?
