High School Week 2 (May 28): So What’s Next?
Series Verses:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” (Romans 12:2)
“Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the LORD, and who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” (Psalms 1:1-3)
“You have been set apart as holy to the Lord your God, and he has chosen you from all the nations of the earth to be his own special treasure.” (Deuteronomy 14:2, NLT)
Discussion Goal: You choose today who you’ll be tomorrow.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter)
If your future self could send you one piece of advice, what would it be?
Think It Through (and Talk It Out)
Leader Tip: Choose questions that resonate with your group’s age, experiences, and current understanding. There’s no pressure to cover all the questions — pick the ones that fit your group the best.
Read Genesis 27:18-29. Jacob made a choice that didn’t just change his own future — it changed Esau’s, too. Why do you think it’s easy to believe that the choices we make today don’t really matter in the long run — especially when we don’t see the consequences right away?
Jacob may have received the blessing, but it didn’t come without consequences. Have you ever made a choice that seemed like a win in the moment but created bigger problems or guilt later?
What did you learn about the consequences of choices and how it impacts your future?
Proverbs 3:5-6 shows us how to approach the choices we make: We’re called to trust God completely, lean on His wisdom instead of just our own, and include Him in every part of our lives. When we live this way, God promises to “make your paths straight” — meaning He’ll guide us, help us make wise decisions, and lead us in the right direction. How do you invite God into your everyday decisions—whether they’re big life choices or small daily ones?
Is there something from this verse that you want to start doing so that God is more involved in your choices?
Pray: God, please help us to understand how our choices today shape our tomorrow. Give us the courage to make choices that will grow our faith and live a life of purpose. We love You. Amen.
