High School Week 3: Calling Over Cost
The Main Thing:
Following Jesus means letting go of what it costs you.
Start Talking (Conversation Starter):
If you could instantly become amazing at ONE thing, but it would cost you every Saturday for the next six months, would you do it? Why or why not? If yes, what would you pick?
Explore the Scripture:
Read John 6:60-69 together. Spend some time talking about the passage.
What words, phrases, or actions stand out?
What questions does this passage raise?
What’s God showing you about the passage?
What does this passage reveal about Jesus or people?
Now read Acts 4:18-20 and John 9:1-34. How do these passages add to what you read in Luke?
Unpack It:
Discuss what you read and what you heard.
Compare the different responses people have when following Jesus becomes difficult. What do you notice?
What do these verses show us about choosing calling over the cost?
Which verses challenge or encourage you most? What about the message challenged or encouraged you?
Own It:
Make the Scripture personal.
Which person in these passages do you relate to most right now? Why?
What does it look like to let the cost of following Jesus keep you from obeying Him? What does the opposite look like?
How’s God calling you to apply what you read or what you heard?
Live It:
Take action to apply what you learned.
This week, take the ALL IN CHALLENGE. Do at least one of the following!
Share your faith with someone you've been hesitant to talk to.
Stand up for what you know is right, even if it's unpopular.
Choose obedience to Jesus in a situation where it could cost you something.
Encourage another believer who is facing pressure because of their faith.
Prayer:
End your meeting by inviting someone to pray for the group to have the courage to follow Jesus even when it costs something.
