Discussion Goal: To understand that following Jesus means making daily decisions of obedience that can lead to lasting change.

Start Talking (Conversation Starter)

  • What’s the most random or impulsive decision you’ve ever made — and how did it turn out?

  • Would you rather have to decide what to eat for the whole group every day for a week, or let someone else decide for you? Why?

  • What’s one small decision you’ve made recently that ended up having a bigger impact than you expected?

Think It Through (and Talk It Out)

Leader Tip: Choose questions that resonate with your group’s age, experiences, and current understanding. There’s no pressure to cover all the questions — pick the ones that fit your group the best.

  • Read Luke 5:1–11. What did the men walk away from?

    • What do you think it would take for you to walk away from something familiar — your routine, your plans, your comfort zone — to follow Jesus fully?

  • “There’s a difference between an event and a decision.” Can you think of a time when you experienced something powerful (maybe at YTHX or during church/eGroup), but struggled to live differently afterward?

  • What decision might God be asking you to make today that could carry into your everyday life?

  • Pastor showed how even a small pivot can lead to a big difference over time. What’s one small area of your life — a habit, friendship, mindset, or app — that God may be nudging you to shift?

    • How might that one adjustment open the door for more of what God wants to do through you?

Pray It Out

Jesus, thank You for calling us to follow You — not just in big moments, but in our everyday decisions. Help us to trust You, even when it doesn’t make sense, and give us the courage to take small steps of obedience. We believe You can use even the smallest decision to do something great in our lives.

Additional Questions

  • Pastor Steven said, “The biggest things that God will do in your life start in the smallest details.” What’s one small decision you’ve made recently that helped you move in a better direction — and how did it change things?

  • Simon obeyed even when it didn’t make sense — and God came through in a big way. What’s one area where you feel like you’ve “fished all night” with no results, and how can you trust God again?

  • Peter didn’t know he would become a world-changer when he said yes to Jesus. What’s a decision you could make this week that future-you will thank you for?

  • “One moment with Jesus can change everything, but it takes many moments to sustain it.” What are some ways you can stay connected to Jesus after this week ends?
