Discussion Goal: To reflect on the one thing that may be holding us back and encourage us to say yes to living fully and daily with Jesus.

Start Talking (Conversation Starter)

  • If you had to give yourself a “rapper name” like Rich Young Ruler, what would it be — and why?

  • If you could take one worship song, one sermon, and one late-night snack from YTHX back home with you — what would they be?

  • What’s something God showed you this week that you don’t want to forget when you get home?

Think It Through (and Talk It Out)

Leader Tip: Choose questions that resonate with your group’s age, experiences, and current understanding. There’s no pressure to cover all the questions — pick the ones that fit your group the best.

  • Read Mark 10:17–22. Why do you think the rich young ruler walked away sad after meeting Jesus?

    • What do you think Jesus was really asking him to give up? Have you ever felt like Jesus has asked you to give something up, too?

  • Jesus didn’t shame the ruler — He looked at him and loved him (Mark 10:21). What does that say about how Jesus sees us, even in our struggle to surrender?

  • We all have “one thing” that can keep us from going all in with Jesus — whether it’s pride, comfort, fear, or something else. What might your one thing be, and what would it look like to lay it down and trust Jesus with it?

Pray It Out

Jesus, thank You for loving us enough to call us deeper. Show us the “one thing” that might be holding us back, and give us the courage to surrender it to You. Help us leave this moment changed — not just at YTHX, but for every day that follows.

Additional Questions

  • Manouchka said Jesus talked about relationships before eternal life — why do you think the way we treat people is such a big deal to God? (Ephesians 6:2-3)

  • Bless Your Group | Deuteronomy 28:1-14

    • Say, “This week, we’ve talked about making a different decision, about surrendering this one thing, and about living daily with Jesus. You are not leaving this place the same — you are walking out as leaders, influencers, and a generation that follows Jesus with everything.”

    • Say, “Now I want to read a blessing over you — one that God gave His people, and one that is still true today when we choose to fully follow Him.” Read Deuteronomy 28:1-14.

    • Say, “You are a generation of rich young rulers — not walking away, but rising up in surrender. God doesn’t need you to be perfect; He needs you to be willing. He will take what you have — your voice, your influence, your future — and use it for His Kingdom.”

    • “He is calling you to rule, reign, and lead differently — not for your name, but for His. The blessing isn’t just for a moment; it’s for your daily walk. And you don’t walk alone — you walk in the favor and faithfulness of God.”

    • End with a group prayer, inviting students to say a personal yes to the blessing. Students could place a hand on someone next to them as a sign of agreement and encouragement.
