Youth

DISCUSSION GOAL:

Help youth identify and overcome fears that might be keeping them from taking the step they need to take.

REVIEW

Ask youth to share their favorite points from the sermon, what spoke to them, a phrase or moment from the sermon they related to the most, or questions they have. If youth have a hard time recalling the sermon, talk through your notes and share your favorite points.

READ SCRIPTURE

Read the main scripture passages used in the sermon:

GROUP DISCUSSION: Explore The Scripture

  • Read 2 Timothy 1-12 and 2 Timothy 4:5-8. Paul was letting Timothy know it was time for him to step up. How do you think Timothy felt hearing this? Can you identify with him?

  • Paul told Timothy to "fan into flames" the gift inside him. What does that mean to you? What’s keeping you from “fanning your flame”?

  • Read Genesis 3:1-10. Pastor Charles said this was the first time Adam and Eve’s “self-awareness got bigger than their God-awareness.” What does that mean? Why do you think Adam and Eve were afraid?

GROUP DISCUSSION: Apply It To Your Life

  • Pastor Charles gave us four core fears that drive anxiety: what people think of us, failing, losing what we love, and the fear of being "fundamentally broken." Which of those fears do you struggle with the most? Why?

  • There are three things we need to do when we’re fighting smoke: recognize, replace, and release. Which of those do you most need to do? Why?

  • He ended with, “You’re safe. God sees you. It’s time.” What step is it time for you to take? How can the group pray for you?

PRAYER PROMPT:

God, thank You for being so much bigger than anything we could be afraid of. We don’t want to waste time on fear and anxiety about the future. We want to release those fears and trust Your plan so we can step into everything You have for us. Thank You that Your Spirit has given us everything we need for right now. Help us lean into that every single day. In Jesus’ name, amen.
