Additional passages: Philippians 1:6, Psalm 22:3 (NLT)
GROUP DISCUSSION: Explore The Scripture
What do you think the lame man was thinking before he encountered Peter and John? How do you identify with him?
Peter said, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.” But the man didn’t walk — he JUMPED. Why? What does that tell you about his situation and what Jesus can do?
All the people who saw this were amazed, and they came running. They recognized this man because they'd seen him begging for years. Why do you think a changed life can be one of the strongest ways people see God's power?
GROUP DISCUSSION: Apply It To Your Life
Pastor Steven said, “Just because you have broken places in your life doesn't mean God can't do big things through you.” What broken place in your life do you think God wants to use? What things make it hard to believe He can do that?
Just jump! Pastor Steven taught us two Greek words. The word “exallomai” (EX-allo-my) is to jump OUT of something. The word “hallomai” (HAL-oh-my) means to KEEP leaping. Is there a place in your life where you need to “exallomai”? What would it mean for you to “hallomai” after YTHX?
Pastor Steven told us we need to praise God “on the way” to where we’re trying to go. And Graham taught us three Hebrew words for praise:
Yadah: to praise the Lord through the lifting of hands
Shabach: to shout, to address in a loud tone, to command, to triumph
Halal: to praise in celebration and boasting by acting foolish in the presence of God
Which one of those words will help you the most in praising God while you’re on the way? Which one feels out of your comfort zone? How can you stretch yourself to start growing in it?
PRAYER PROMPT:
God, thank You that You are faithful to Your Word, and that You’re greater than anything we may ever face. Thank You that just because we have broken places doesn’t mean You can’t do big things through us! Help us trust You enough to “just jump” so we can see You move in our lives and in the lives of those around us. In Jesus’ name we pray, amen.
